operation spending freeze: 40 days done!

I embarked on my own operation spending freeze after learning that Alison from long distance loving started her own journey earlier this year. I thought it would be a great challenge for me to cut out spending on clothing, accessories, and makeup for the 40 days of Lent. And surprisingly, it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. A relief really, because I thought I was going to struggle. Instead, I kind of loved the idea, especially since I knew that saving meant more money towards my own apartment.

But if I had been able to spend during those 40 days, these are a few things I would have considered purchasing.

I'm pretty sure these will all be purchased eventually, just not sure when. I've adopted a new way of thinking when it comes to spending and saving. And I've started putting money away in an envelope after each paycheck for specific items. My mom gave me the idea and I think it's a great one!

Do you have any methods for saving and spending?

Happy Wednesday!

  1. I LOVE the turquoise flats!!! My method for saving/spending is to find things on sale or shop and "cheaper" stores. For me it's Forever 21. I find it cures my need to shop and doesn't break the bank.

Good luck on your shopping freeze!

  2. I'm pretty lucky that my job allows me to shop my favorite stores at a discount (however it sometimes leads to over-shopping!). I'm not the best at saving money but when I need to I try to avoid stores and eat at home.

that dry shampoo is amazing - I bought it in travel size which has lasted me a long time (and was more cost-efficient to me)!

  3. I adore those turquoise flats, they're so cute! Saving money has never been easy for me but I'm all for giving a try. I think I'll try your envelope method this next payday & see if that helps me out.

    *fingers crossed*

  4. so inspiring! I wish I had this kind of control -- and so does my bank account. I always say I'm going to set money aside, and I don't. I NEED to.

  6. I love the turquoise flats a lot!!! Obsessed with dry shampoo but never tried that one. Is it worth the price tag?

    2. Marci, it's definitely worth the price! I've tried a few and I think Oscar Blandi is the best. It doesn't leave behind any residue, like some others do, and it smells wonderful. Highly recommended!
