to control summer hair

Earlier this month I did a short series on my summer make up favorites and must-haves. I have other beauty favorites, some used just mainly in the summer and others all year round.

I'll be very honest - I don't need to do very much to my hair usually. I have naturally straight hair that is manageable and soft {both a blessing and a curse}. I don't like to blow dry it so I do it very rarely, maybe once or twice a month. Whenever I put any heat to my hair, I always use a heat protectant. Even though my hair is extremely straight, I'm still prone to frizzy hair during summer months so I using a creme that can be applied to dry hair to tame that. I love Oscar Blandi Dry Shampoo but don't always want to shell out the cash for it and Batiste is a great drugstore alternative. And if you're looking for a hairspray that will do as it claims, look no further than L'Oreal Elnett Satin - just make sure to get the unscented version.

What are some of your go-to hair products?

eat this, wear that

Despite some scatted showers this weekend, the weather was rather hot and humid here in New York City. I was snacking on frozen grapes and thought how refreshing they are during the summer months. When I stumbled upon these raspberry, mango, and kiwi pops and think they would be so easy to make to enjoy on those hot days. Pair it with a bright red top and sunny yellow jeans with lime-colored sandals. And don't forget a few pretty things for your wrist in perfect neutral and complimenting colors.

Happy Monday!

friday's fancies: favorite summer treat

If you ask anyone in my family, they will tell you just how deep my love for mangos goes. When they're in season, I can eat them for breakfast, lunch, dinner and not to mention as snacks in between. And I will probably eat more than one. What can I say? I just really love them.

So for today's Friday's Fancies, I chose all things that are yellow, bright, and fresh. From accessories {for you and for your home!} to shoes to clothes, these will surely brighten your day.

bottoms up

Thursdays have always meant that the weekend is just that much closer. With the Olympics starting tomorrow {so exciting!}, I thought a drink that reminds me of London would be a great way to kick things off. Who wouldn't want to be sipping this drink in an adorable eyelet dress on a summer day? A combination of bright colors paired fresh strawberries, cucumbers, and refreshing mint is sure to quench your thirst. So whether you like yours with lemon-lime soda or champagne, just make sure you don't forget to don your own gold medal while cheering for your team!

on my wish list

Living on my own and paying for rent and other things means curbing spending in other areas. Therefore, I've put myself on another spending freeze and will be following it for, at least, the month of August. I'm making exceptions for a few things of course, like the necessities that I may run out of and groceries, but otherwise it will be 30 days of no spending. Wish me luck!

nordstrom anniversary sale

I consider the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale to be one of the best out there. When it comes around, the mall is always packed. Because really, who doesn't want a great deal on fall trends before the season starts? These are a few of my favorites that I would love to pick up before the sale ends on August 6th.

eat this, wear that

It is certainly nice to be back and blogging. Moving has been stressful, and there is still so much that I need to get. It will all come in time though and I can't wait to share bits of my apartment with you!

Salads are a great way to cool off during these summer months. Something I've been loving lately is including fruit in my salads so this is one I can't wait to try. Crisp mixed greens and arugula with buttery avocados, warm grilled chicken, fresh mangos, and crunchy red onions and pistachios. Topped off with blackberry vinaigrette and you have yourself a bright salad for a summer day. Get the look with a bright and sweet dress and a punch from a vibrant yellow statement necklace. If you're wearing this to the office, don't forget a berry cardigan to keep yourself warm.

moving day

I'll be taking a bit of a break from the blog for a few days as I finish moving in and organizing things in my new apartment. Please excuse my absence! I'll be back in full force soon!

friday's fancies: wedding guest

{Better late than never right? Yup, I think so too!}

Though I won't be attending any weddings this summer, I absolutely loved this week's theme for Friday's Fancies. There are so many pretty dresses that I've seen that I have imagined wearing to a wedding. This week, I chose to go with an outfit that I think is perfect for a summer garden wedding. I love, love, love its shape, length, and crisp white and yellow color pairing. Nude sandals and a fun bright blue clutch add to its charm.

Have a great weekend!

for rosy cheeks and kissable lips

This short series on summer make up ends with my picks for achieving rosy, sun-kissed cheeks and kissable lips.

I've been trying to find the perfect cream blush and bronzer for awhile now but haven't come upon any that I really liked. If you have suggestions, I'd love to try them out if I haven't already! This bronzer and blush from NARS are things I use all year round but I still think they're great in the summer. When it comes to lips, I think sometimes lipstick can be too heavy so opting for lip stains or tinted chapstick is a great alternative. I stumbled upon these lip stains after a few of my favorite YouTube make up gurus reviewed them on their channels and I thought I would give them a try. The first one I bought didn't disappoint so I headed back to the drugstore to purchase a few more.

{NARS Laguna Bronzer | NARS Orgasm Blush | Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Honey, Sweetheart, and Rendezvous

I've mentioned these lip stains before and they have certainly lived up to the hype. They deliver on color payoff and are moisturizing, never leaving my lips chapped. If I'm not wearing any lip products, then I'll reach for either my EOS or Maybelline Baby Lips lip balm. Both are great and come in adorable packaging!

Be sure to leave me suggestions for new products to try!

for eye catching eyes

Next up in this summer makeup series is all about eyes. I highly recommend using cream eye shadows, liquid liner, and waterproof mascara during the summer. High temperatures and perspiration doesn't bode well, in my opinion, for powder eye shadows and regular mascara {I actually always wear waterproof mascara}. I have a ton of eye shadow palettes that I love and do occasionally use, but my cream shadows see the most of use during these months.

Again, I don't use all of these products at one time {it'd be crazy to wear all three eye shadows at one time!}; these are just a few of my favorites that I reach for. I got this eyeliner in my June Birchbox and am absolutely in love with it because it's so easy to use! And this mascara is my go-to all year round.

for a flawless face

So it's midway through the summer and I've decided to share my summer make up essentials. For this first installment, it's all about creating a flawless face. And because of the hot weather, I think it's best to stay away from heavy make up and a caked-on look. The more natural the look, the better. In fact, I always go one day a week sans make up.

Now, I don't usually use all of these products at one time unless I find it extremely necessary. On a day-to-day basis, I choose one of these moisturizers depending on how dry my skin is {I have eczema and super sensitive skin} and then a combination of the others. Sometimes it's just under eye concealer, sometimes it's just a quick and light sweep of powder. Other days, I think daily moisturizer plus tinted moisturizer is all that's needed. In my opinion, a quick and light look is the way to go.

I've been wanting to try this Bobbi Brown concealer for a while now but have yet to bite the bullet. BB cream is also on my list of products to sample.

What's your summer face make up routine? Have you tried any of these products or have recommendations?

eat this, wear that

July is National Ice Cream Month and one of my favorites happens to be mint chocolate chip. With incredibly hot weather lately in the city, this mint chocolate chip pie looks like the perfect dessert to cool off. Wear what you eat with these mint jeans and lightweight polka dot top paired with my favorite summer shoes that I own in multiple colors, Sam Edelman's Gigi sandals. Don't forget the necessary accessories - a Nixon watch and a cross body bag for all your essentials.

How have you been staying cool this summer?

friday's fancies: stars and stripes

A power outage on Wednesday night not only meant not posting an entry for Thursday but also missing the Macy's fireworks on TV! Boo.

Well, I hope all of you that were able to see it or other fireworks enjoyed it. I settled for hearing them in the distance while sitting in my house without air conditioning or light. Not exactly the way I had planned to spend the 4th of July but at least I got to start a new book!

For this week's Friday's Fancies, it's all about keeping the patriotic party going and wearing your stars and stripes. I took it literally with this outfit but opted to go with simple accessories.

OK, I am serious crushing on these YSL heels with their pointy toes and gold inset heel. If I had the money, I think they would find their way into my closet for sure.

Any fun plans for this weekend? I hope you have a great one!

happy fourth!

I hope you have a wonderful day full of celebrations and some relaxation in the middle of the week. Why not bake these festive red, white, and blue cupcakes with patriotic liners? A fun and easy idea from the fabulous Bakerella!

Happy Fourth of July!

red, white, and blue polka dot nails

I wanted to paint my nails for the Fourth of July and decided on a polka dot pattern. I used a red nail polish and added white and blue polka dots on my ring fingers. It's a quick and easy manicure and fun for the holiday!

What you'll need: a red, blue, and white nail polish {I used Zoya in Tamsen and Sally Hansen Nail Art Pens in Blue and White}

Step 1: Apply a base coat and two coats of your red nail polish. Let dry completely {I only waited about five-seven minutes.}

Step 2 and 3: Once dry, use the nail art pens to apply white and blue dots to create a polka dot pattern. I made a random pattern but you can make a more precise one.

Step 4: Apply a top coat and you're all done!

Four easy steps to a pretty manicure! If you give this a try, let me know!

eat this, wear that

The Fourth of July is on Wednesday {is that not the worst day for a holiday?} and I have been thinking of what dessert to make for this Independence Day. This Patriotic Berry Trifle not only looks delicious but very easy to make too! Deck yourself out in red, white, and blue with this peplum top {I've been admiring it for months!}, comfy chino shorts, and these fabulous glitter Jack Rogers sandals. Star stud earrings seem like the perfect earrings for this day.

Do you have any fun plans for the week and Wednesday? I'll be spending my day at IKEA, which I consider fun, so I hope you have a fun day too!
