friday's fancies: labor day

Can you believe it's Labor Day Weekend? Where did the summer go? I used to consider spring and summer my favorite seasons but I think fall has replaced them. And while I'm looking forward to cozy sweaters, fun tights, and riding boots, I am sad that the summer is coming to an end.

I'm heading home for the long weekend and resting up before the IFB conference and Lucky FABB {so excited!} What are your Labor Day Weekend plans? Whatever they are, I hope they include a little bit of fun and a great outfit!

Be sure to check out other Labor Day styles on long distance loving!

Have a great weekend!

french braid

As much as I love styling my hair in different ways, sometimes I would rather have it in something other than a sock bun or loose curls. My go-to lately for the work week has been a french braid. So easy and so quick that I often do it while waiting the few minutes for the subway downtown to the office. It's a look that isn't seen so often {though Maggie from Gallery Girls was rockin' one on Tuesday's show} but it's so classic and simple that you'll be glad you know how to style it this way.

If I decide not to keep it classic, I'll add one of my bows or plain ribbon to the end of the braid or wear a headband. It's a great everyday look, casual or dressed up.

currently craving

{Fresh pineapple + a great how-to on how to properly cut it from Iowa Girl Eats, Wear This Now from SheFinds, Pretty Little Liars TV Series - Season One}

The three things that I've been thinking about lately - pineapple {in juice form, in my yogurt, in my salsa, as a snack, as dessert, you get the drift...}, the new book from SheFinds, and Pretty Little Liars. I started reading the series last week and am in the middle of book #9 right now. I think I'm going to take this weekend to watch the TV series. Is it any good?

Happy Wednesday!

pretty packaging

Knowing me means knowing that I'm such a sucker for pretty packaging and clever names. Whenever I see a product, any product {though usually makeup}, and the packaging is just too smart or too pretty I always give it a second thought. Sometimes I can successfully talk myself out it. And then sometimes I just can't.

Even though these makeup pieces don't come out for a couple more months, I've already started telling myself that I really just don't need it. Mainly because I know these products are not cheap and I'd never use it because they are literally works of art. So while I'd love to own every single thing from the NARS and Andy Warhol Holiday 2012 Collection, I'm going to just have to admire it from afar instead.

Hello pretties.

A self-portrait eyeshadow trio? Signature pop flowers eyeshadow palettes? Yes. I am completely sold. I'm glad that I have until October and November {this collection will be released in two waves to Sephora and department stores} to talk myself out of this one.

Do you ever fall for clever packaging?

eat this, wear that

Mexican food is my favorite. Salsa, guacamole, tortilla chips, rice and beans, tacos, fajitas, burritos - all of it. I love it. When one of my favorite bloggers, Laura from Beauty and the Beard, featured an eight ingredient salsa, I was thrilled. It looked super easy to make and incredibly delicious. I think a red dress accessorized with pops of green and white is a great way to take it from the table to work. Sticking with just a few, simple accessories makes the dress the star of the show. I will certainly be dreaming of wearing this today.

friday's fancies: road trip

We're styling for a road trip for this week's Friday's Fancies. Whenever I take long trips {including one from NJ to Indianapolis, IN where I slept pretty much the entire way}, I like to be really comfy without having to sacrifice personal style. I opt for things that aren't too tight and shoes that I can slip on and off. And a bag big enough to hold essentials, including snacks, reading material, and a camera, is a necessity for me.

What are your trip essentials? Don't forget to check out all the other great looks over on long distance loving!

Happy Friday and have a great weekend!

suited in blue

You may or may not agree, but I think Robert Pattinson looked quite handsome at the Cosmopolis premiere in NYC. Since then, I have been on the look out for a blue suit. While I would love to invest in great separates, my current budget won't allow for it. I think this navy blazer and pant option is one of the better choices that won't break the bank. It'd be a perfect look for the office with a trendy peplum top in a neutral color and a statement necklace.

currently craving

Lately, I've been perusing Barnes & Noble like it is my job. I haven't made it to the store near my apartment just yet but I have plans on doing so this weekend. I love just walking around and looking at all the books, thinking of what I want to buy, what add to my bookshelf, and what to add to my "to-read" list.

Here are three of the books I plan on purchasing once my spending freeze is over.

{Ten Dollar Dinners by Melissa D'Arabian, How to Look Expensive by Amanda Pomerantz Lustig, and Flawless by Sara Shepard}

I've been wanting to see what all the hype over Pretty Little Liars is about and just started the first book yesterday. We'll see how much I enjoy it and if it's worth purchasing the rest of the series.

Do you own any of these books? What are you currently reading? Check out my reading list over on Goodreads!

products i regret buying

I haven't bought anything new lately due to my current spending freeze for the month of August. And I haven't really been wanting to try out new products. The amount of makeup I currently have in my drawers is just out of control so I really need to use that up before even thinking of buying anything new. I did purchase these two items months ago though and have been testing them out since.

*Note: These products were purchased with my own money. Although they did not work me does not mean they will yield the same results for others.

Cutex Nail Polish Remover Pads: I purchased the non-acetone version first and then the regular version. I didn't like either. It claims that just one pad, which Cutex describes as "bigger and thicker than ordinary pads", should remove the nail polish off all ten fingers. Yeah, no. No matter the color - dark or the sheerest of sheers - I was using two or three pads to remove the nail polish. Since it didn't do as it claimed, this product was a total failure in my book.

Fairydrops Scandal Queen Mascara: OK, so I don't completely regret this. I'm 50/50 on it actually. I do like that this holds a curl really well, which I think is probably due to the shape of the wand. However, I do notice that after a few hours of wear, I end up with smudging underneath my eyes. Don't love that at all. So right now, I kind of like it but I doubt I'll be purchasing it again.

Have you used any of these products?

eat this, wear that

I would not be opposed to starting off the week with these bacon cinnamon rolls. Who could possibly resist salty bacon strips baked in the sweet, yummy, and ooey goodness of cinnamon rolls? This may or may not be the best breakfast that I will definitely be trying. Sweeten up your Monday outfit with this tie-neck blouse paired with one of my closet staples. Accessorize with a fun cheetah cuff, pink clutch, and a peachy lipstick - a perfect way to spice up the start of your week.

Happy Monday!

friday's fancies: summer sunset

I've taken advantage of the location of my new home and have been walking home whenever it's a nice summer day. On days that I choose to just stroll, I'm sometimes able to catch the sunset. Shades of orange, yellow, and red - a pretty palette that reminds me to enjoy every last bit of summer before fall weather comes.

Have a wonderful weekend!

in the rain

Thunderstorms and rain showers have been on and off here lately. I don't like to be unprepared so I keep my umbrella with me at all times. One of the hardest things, I think, is dressing appropriately for the rain. I hate wearing pants in the rain because they get wet and take forever to dry so I usually opt for shorts, skirts, and dresses during the warm weather months. Sometimes though, I still get stuck in a rut and have a hard time choosing what to wear in the mornings. I put together a work appropriate look, including the makeup I've been wearing lately, to get my inspiration flowing in the event of rainy weather.

Here's to looking fabulous and staying dry!

Just a few things that have been on my mind and stuck in my head lately...

I don't care what you say, this new Taylor Swift song is catchy!

Happy Wednesday!

eat this, wear that

I was reading up on a few of my favorite food blogs the other day and found this recipe for a cherry chip cake. Not only were the picture so pretty, but it sounded delicious and I want to try making it myself. This red spotted dress reminds me of the sprinkling of cherries throughout the cake. Pair it with neutral accessories and fabulous pair of classic pumps in a fun snakeskin print and you're set to start the week off right!

friday's fancies: gingham gorg

Gingham is one of my favorite patterns so choosing pieces for this week's Friday's Fancies was a breeze. I love that it works in both summer and fall, making it a great transition print that you need in your closet. I chose to go with double gingham because it was too hard to choose between the two.

I would love to wear this outfit or something similar this weekend! Hopefully the rain won't be too bad here in the city and in the suburbs that I'll be able to put something together.

Have a great weekend!

adding to my wish list

Just a few things that I've added to my wish list since starting my spending freeze for the month of August. Hopefully I will be able to add these to my closet in the coming months.

how to remove scuff marks

I came home yesterday and started having a little panic attack when I saw this.

But then I remembered that it can be easily fixed! So here's a little tip for you {that you may or may not already know} in the event that you come home one day to find a picture no longer hanging and scuff marks on your wall.

To remove the ugly scuff marks, soak a cotton ball with nail polish remover. Then, rub the marks on the wall.

And TA-DA! Those marks will be gone. And don't worry, once it dries you won't ever be able to tell that they were ever there.

I'm taking this as an opportunity to decide where I want to put my pretty frame {been having second thoughts}. For now, it will just remain on my foot stool.

{I was lucky enough to win this through a giveaway on L.A. in the Bay but this ISeeNoise print can be purchased here}

pillow talk

Since moving into my own apartment, I've been trying to decide on how to decorate my walls and other little spaces. One of the things I've been trying to tackle since buying my sofa and deciding on colors to decorate with {greens, blues, and pinks} is picking out pillows. Knowing me, I will most likely try to change them with the season/holidays but would love to pick out a couple that I can use all year round. I've narrowed it down to a few combinations but still can't make up my mind.

{IKEA Sandby Sofa | 1. Design Darling Greek Key Pillows in Navy and Hot Pink 2. Society Social Pillows in Art Deco Azure and Blue on Blue Lattice 3. West Elm Cozy Pillows in Ivory and Regal Blue}

I really can't decide which ones I like the best. What are your favorites? Please feel free to recommend some!

eat this, wear that

I have watched nothing but the Olympics {currently watching a the gold medal Badminton match that is CRAZY!} really since the Opening Ceremonies. Fish and chips seem to be a staple in the UK so I thought it was appropriate choice this week.  Though I've never had or made them myself {major seafood allergies here}, they are one of my dad's favorites. This dress screamed the sea with its ocean color scheme and fish scale patterned sequins. Keep the accessories to let this dress really be the star of the show.

friday's fancies: t-shirt time

My favorite t-shirts of all time are J. Crew's Perfect-Fit Tees. Short or long sleeved, v-necks or crew necks - I love all of their cuts and colors. They're so soft and fit the body so well, not too tight and not too loose. Literally perfect.

T-shirts can be dressed up or down but who doesn't love the basic, classic, and effortless tee and jeans look? I imagine wearing an outfit similar to this while running errands on the weekend or taking a stroll through my new neighborhood.

Happy weekend!

rachel zoe jewelry

Rachel Zoe's Jewelry Collection made it's big debut this week and I had to take a look at her designs, despite not always loving her or her clothing. I do love this art deco-inspired collection, full of statement pieces. While I usually go for more subtle pieces, I wouldn't mind owning a few of these - if only there wasn't such a steep price tag...

Have you taken a look at her new jewelry pieces? Do you have any favorites?

polish pairings

I'm a huge fan of nail polish, specifically Essie. These are the current colors I'm wearing and it may be one of my favorites yet - a fun coral pink on my nails and a dark sapphire blue on my toes.

What are you wearing?
