winter hair care

The winter season officially begins on Friday, but I switched to a slightly different hair care routine once the temperatures started to drop into the 40s. It wasn't until college that I realized the toll cold weather and low temperatures takes on your hair. I've learned my lesson and haven't looked back.

I switch over to a more moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, even though I don't have dry or coarse hair, in the winter and use a hydrating mask in the shower. I'm sure you've heard that it's best not to wash your hair every day. I don't go days without doing it, but I really do only wash my hair six days of the week. The night I skip the wash and condition and the next morning, I always use a dry shampoo.

In terms of styling, I use hairspray on any fly-aways and, if I'm pulling my hair into a sock bun, Fiber Gum from Garnier Fructis to tame the baby hairs at my temples. If I can go without blow drying my hair, I will. That doesn't happen often in the winter so I spray a heat protectant on my hair whenever I use a blow dryer or curling iron. I also comb my hair instead of brushing it.

Do you change your hair routine with the seasons?

  1. I'm really impressed with the organix line, especially the affordability of it. My favorite heat protectant (as of lately) is Kerastase Nutritive Nectar Thermique Protect (not only does it smell delicious but it isn't too thick or goopy where I can't have second day hair). Great post. oxo

  2. ooh i need to try a mask.. i just switched over to pureology hydrate conditioner and i love it. also, dry shampoo is totally my go to. i use klorane powder.

  3. hair care is so extensive sometimes!!
