drink this, wear that: hot chocolate with marshmallows

Waking up early on Christmas morning and opening presents with my family is probably one of the best parts and memories I have of this holiday. I'm thinking that good hot mug of decadent hot chocolate would be a great addition to our ritual.

Sprinkles and Style || Drink This, Wear That: Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows

I'm all about wearing comfortable pajamas on Christmas morning and sitting around the tree while opening presents. I love that this outfit is subtly festive with a bright pop of red against the crisp white. Comfy slippers, glasses {I own the Bensen's in Greystone!}, lip balm, and that cup of hot chocolate {or coffee or tea!} are also holiday morning necessities.

Happy Monday!

one dress, two ways for new year's eve

Christmas is quickly approaching, which means that New Year's Eve is also right around the corner. I've already got my outfits planned for Christmas Eve and Christmas day but currently don't have anything in mind for New Year's festivities. I started perusing the internet and came up with this little bit of outfit inspiration.

Sprinkles and Style || One Dress, Two Ways for New Year's Eve

I absolutely love this Maje dress and would happily wear it with either set of accessories. I can't really choose between the two sets of accessories to pair with this dress, but that adds to the appeal! It'd be so easy to mix and match here for another look.

Have you picked out your outfits for the upcoming holidays?

Hope you have a great weekend!

graham cracker, cranberry, & pistachio toffee brickle

Sprinkles and Style || Graham Cracker, Cranberry, & Pistachio Toffee Brickle

Have you noticed that I've posted more recipes than usual? The holidays up the baking bug in me, and I just wanted to share some of the recipes that I love with you. Like Tuesday's recipe, this one is pretty easy but will take some time to set. So while you will have to wait a bit to break into this, you will absolutely love it once you do!

Graham Cracker, Cranberry, and Pistachio Toffee Brickle

Ingredients:
About 17 graham crackers
2 sticks unsalted butter, cubed
1/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup light brown sugar
1 3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/4 cup milk chocolate chips
1/2 cup dried cranberries {I used just a little bit more than a half cup}
1/2 cup roasted and unsalted pistachios {Again, used a bit more than a half cup}
3 good pinches of fleur de sel

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with foil and cover that with parchment paper.
2. Completely cover your baking sheet with graham crackers. If you need to, break them into smaller pieces to cover the full sheet.
3. In a pan, melt the butter and sugars together. Stir occasionally until the butter is melted and the mixture has come to a boil. Once this is boiling, continue stirring constantly until this has thickened {about three minutes}.
4. Pour this mixture over the graham crackers and spread to coat. Place this in the oven and bake for 12 minutes.
5. Remove from the oven and sprinkle the bubbling caramel and graham crackers with chocolate chips. Let this sit for 5 minutes and then spread with a spatula {I used an offset spatula} to cover the caramel.
6. Sprinkle the cranberries, pistachios, and fleur de sel evenly on top. Let this cool and set at room temperature. Or place in the fridge to set.
7. Once the toffee brickle has completely set, break into smaller pieces and... ENJOY!

I recommend storing this in an airtight container in between layers of wax paper.

The best thing about this recipe is that you can really top this with any combination you'd like - pretzels, almonds, potato chips, coconut flakes... It's really all up to you!

peppermint and oreo bark

Sprinkles and Style || Peppermint and Oreo Bark

Another holiday recipe today! This one doesn't actually require any baking but it does take some willpower and patience. This chocolate bark is probably one of my favorite things to make each Christmas season. I added some fun winter Oreos to it this year and am convinced they are must-have addition to this recipe. Don't skip out on this, you'll be sorry!

Peppermint and Oreo Chocolate Bark

Ingredients:
10 - 12 Oreos, chopped {whatever kind you like!}
5 candy canes, crushed/chopped into bite-size pieces
1 1/4 cups of semisweet chocolate
1 3/4 cups of white chocolate

1. Line a baking pan with wax paper.
2. Chop the Oreos and candy canes into smaller pieces. No need to be precise here! Just crush away!
3. In a double boiler or microwave, melt the semisweet chocolate {I melted mine in the microwave in 30-second increments, stirring after each} until smooth. Pour onto your baking pan and spread evenly. Sprinkle with the chopped Oreos. Place in the refrigerator for 10 minutes.
4. Melt the white chocolate until smooth. Pour this over the Oreos and chocolate and spread as evenly as possible. Don't worry if they start to swirl together! Sprinkle with candy canes.
5. Place this in the refrigerator to chill and set. I left mine overnight.
6. Once the bark has set, take a knife and start cutting/breaking away pieces.
7. ENJOY!

chocolate chip pecan pie cookies

Sprinkles and Style || Chocolate Chip Pecan Pie Cookies

When I was in Atlanta earlier this year, I had the most delicious chocolate pecan pie at South City Kitchen {if you're ever there, it's a must try!} It was honestly one of the best desserts I've ever had in my 24 years. Since then, I've wanted to try and duplicate the tasty treat - from the crisp crust to the sweet and nutty filling. I decided to turn it into a cookie and was not disappointed at all. If you're looking for a new holiday cookie to try out, this is it!

Chocolate Chip Pecan Pie Cookies
{adapted from Land O'Lakes}

Ingredients:

For the cookie dough:
2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup unsalted butter
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla

For the filling:
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup half & half
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 cup chopped pecans
1/4 cup milk chocolate chips

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
3. In a bowl of a stand mixer, beat together the brown sugar and butter on medium speed until fluffy. Then, add in the egg and vanilla and beat until smooth. Scrape down the sides to make sure everything is combined.
4. Add the dry ingredients in three-four additions, making sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl in between each to make sure all ingredients are incorporated.
5. Shape the dough into 1 1/4 inch balls and place 2 inches apart on the baking sheet. Make an indentation in each cookie to form a rounded well. I used the back of a measuring spoon {a teaspoon to be exact}. To prevent the dough from spreading too much while baking, place the baking sheet in the fridge for about 20 minutes.
6.  To make the filling, mix together the brown sugar, half and half, and vanilla in a bowl. Fold in the pecans and chocolate chips.
7. Take the cookies out of the fridge and fill each well/indentation with a heaping teaspoon of the filling.
8. Bake for 8-12 minutes until golden brown. Let these cool for 2-3 minutes before removing and placing on a cooling rack.
9. ENJOY!

holiday party: three looks

With the number of holiday parties and get-togethers you have to attend during this time of the year, picking out an outfit can be difficult. I put together a few looks for different occasions - from work to a casual dinner with friends to a festive holiday party- to get you through the season!

Sprinkles and Style || Holiday Party Looks: For Work

Sprinkles and Style || Holiday Party Looks: Casual Sparkle

Sprinkles and Style || Holiday Party Looks: Fun and Festive

I can't pick a favorite here, but I do love that River Island skirt! And I'm almost positive I will be wearing a black dress with my Target bow sweater to my holiday work party. I paired all three with the same makeup and bag because I think that it's great to have a few go-to items during this hectic time of the the year. And if you're looking for another holiday makeup look, make sure to watch this video for a pretty gold and glamorous option.

What's your go-to holiday party outfit?

cinnamon sugar pie crust cookies

Sprinkles and Style || Cinnamon Sugar Pie Crust Cookies

When I made cherry pie for Thanksgiving, I was left with some leftover pie dough. I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it and made an extra batch of these the day after to share with my family. This recipe is so simple, so easy, and so quick that it will become your go-to holiday snack, cookie, and breakfast.

That's right, I said breakfast.

Cinnamon Sugar Pie Crust Cookies

Ingredients:
2 store-bought pie crusts {or homemade, this is what I always use}
2 tbsp. unsalted butter
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tbsp. ground cinnamon {I like a lot of cinnamon. If you don't, just use one tablespoon!}

1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
2. Line your baking sheet with parchment paper.
3. In a bowl, mix together your sugar and ground cinnamon. Set aside.
4. Unroll the dough on a piece of parchment paper that has been lightly floured. Then, with your cookie cutter {I used pie crust cutters from Williams-Sonoma}, cut out the shapes and transfer them to your baking sheet.
5. Melt the butter in the microwave.
6. Using a pastry brush, coat each cookie with the melted butter. Then, sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar mixture.
7. Bake for 8-10 minutes.
8. Let these cool slightly before enjoying! ;]

holiday sweaters

There is just something about having a fun sweater during the holiday season that I love. Bright colors, cheeky graphics, traditional patterns, lots of sparkle - what's not to love? They're perfect for any occasion, dressed up for holiday parties or dressed down for a day of shopping. Whether you want something more classic or something fun, I've rounded up a few of my favorites to share with you!

Sprinkles and Style || Holiday and Winter Sweaters

TOPSHOP is on their game with their selection of holiday sweaters. I'm considering buying the both the holly and sequin present sweaters... And the jeweled sweater from J. Crew? Loving that one too!

Are you a fan of winter patterned and printed sweaters?

Have a wonderful and fun weekend!

juicy couture goodies

I must be living under a rock because I have been missing out on some really pretty things from Juicy Couture. I will admit that it isn't usually a brand that I'm drawn to immediately, but when I saw these on Shopbop, I did a double take. And of course, I picked out some of the things that caught my eye to share with you!

Sprinkles and Style || Juicy Couture Favorites

Don't you think they're pretty? I'm also really loving this chic bow bathing suit {too early?}, this vintage-inspired lace dress, and, of course, these velour pants.

eat this, wear that: turkey and sweet potato hash

Happy December!

I'm still feeling stuffed from all the turkey {see what I did there?} I ate on Thanksgiving and the days after. Is it just me or does turkey and stuffing and sweet potatoes and bacon Brussels sprouts taste better as leftovers than they do during the actual meal? Anyone?...

Sprinkles and Style || Eat This, Wear That: Turkey and Sweet Potato Hash

If you're looking for something to do with all those leftovers, this hash is probably a good way to go. Turkey, sweet potatoes, and crisp green apples? Count me in. And a color pairing of beige neutrals with festive greens and bright orange needs to become one of my go-tos because I love the way it looks together.

Happy {Cyber} Monday!

If you're looking for some great deals today, here are some of my favorites:

Tons of deals so get to shopping! ;] And if you do plan on lightening up your wallet a bit, it wouldn't hurt to use Ebates to get some cash back while you're at it.

holiday gift guide: for the beauty buff

As much as I love style and fashion, I think today's gift guide is my favorite this year. It's no surprise to anyone how much I love anything beauty related, so this round-up of present ideas for my fellow beauty lovers is just right up my alley. Everything from hair care to nail polish to makeup to perfume - this gift guide covers it all.

One of the great things about the holidays is the sets and palettes that come out. It's a really great way to get the most bang-for-your-buck and try out a bunch of different products that you've had your eye on. Personally though, the Marc Jacobs eye shadow palette is my favorite pick here. It's gotten great reviews, and the neutral colors would be a great addition to any girl's makeup collection!

holiday gift guide: for the world traveler

As part of a family that loves to travel and travels often, I know the importance of good trip and vacation accessories. The holidays are a great time to spoil a loved one who's a bit travel-obsessed and is already planning out trips for 2014.

Sprinkles and Style || Holiday Gift Guide: For the Traveler

As for my top pick, noise cancelling headphones are a savior on plane rides so that one takes the cake! I am loving that Kate Spade Saturday bag too; the print is beautiful!

holiday gift guide: for the kiddies

Fun fact about me, I am that person who loves to look at all the tiny and small-sized clothing, shoes, and toys made for infants, toddlers, and kids. It's even more fun during the holidays when there are festive outfits and toys to buy for your own children, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, cousins, or those adorable kids you babysit.

Don't you wish they made some of these things in our size? I would gladly wear that Madeline pajama set. And that Darth Vader PEZ Dispenser? Yeah, I wouldn't mind that one either.

holiday gift guide: for her, the stylish lady

Too early for holiday gift guides? Never. I am completely in the holiday/Christmas spirit already - burning holiday-scented candles, watching Love Actually {a staple during this time of the year}, and rocking out to Christmas music, even while working out!

So let's kick off eight days of holiday gift guides with a few fabulous things for the favorite ladies in your life. And possibly grab one or two {or three!} things for yourself...

Sprinkles and Style || Holiday Gift Guide: For Her

I would certainly be happy to receive any of these as a present this year. And I would gladly gift some of them too! I think the Coach purse and J. Crew sleeping shirt edge out the rest by just a little bit though...

friday's fancies: pretty in plaid

In the fall and winter, I break out every plaid item I own and wear them more than should be allowed. The festive and colorful pattern is probably one of my favorite things about the colder months. Instead of doing an outfit for this week's Friday's Fancies, I rounded up some of the plaid-printed items that have caught my eye. Because honestly, there are just too many things to choose from...

Sprinkles and Style || Pretty in Plaid

I honestly couldn't pick just one of these to include in an outfit! I would love to cozy up on a chilly night in one of the pajama sets. The Zara plaid scarf has become a favorite of mine to wear as the temperature drops here in the city. And how pretty are the jeweled-toe Ettas?

See? Like I said, it's too hard to choose!

I know I didn't post much this week, but next week will be a different tune. Because the holidays are quickly approaching, I'll be posting the first of eight holiday gift guides on Monday! They'll continue until the 27th so I hope you're ready!

Have a happy weekend!

video: product empties #2

Long time, no video!

Whenever I have a weekend off from recording a video for my YouTube channel, I always feel so awkward when I sit in front of the camera again. Fortunately for you, this product empties {and would I repurchase?} came from that. A late Monday night/very early Tuesday morning recording results in some bloopers...

I would love to know - what products do you love and constantly repurchase?

review: unmentionably cheeky

Let's talk about something a little intimate today.

Recently, I was sent two pairs of underwear from Unmentionably Cheeky, a new-to-me intimate apparel monthly subscription service run by a husband and wife duo and based right here in Manhattan. The concept seemed genius: two pairs of fun, flirty, and feminine underwear for $6 plus free shipping. Seriously. That's it. The price threw me a bit and had me worried that I wouldn't be getting great quality items, but I was very pleasantly surprised when it arrived.

Wrapped in purple tissue paper in a very discrete black envelope, the two pairs of underwear were, honestly, much nicer than I expected. Made of soft cotton with lace detailing, these fit well, were comfortable with some stretch to them, and held up after several washes.

Sprinkles and Style: Unmentionably Cheeky Review

Sprinkles and Style: Unmentionably Cheeky Review

Now, would I pay the $6 to have two pairs delivered to me each month? No, but not because I was unhappy with what I received. In fact, I really liked what I received and am grateful that these were even sent to me. I'm just currently choosing not to subscribe to any monthly subscription services.

But if this is something you're interested in, then I say go for it! The price here, especially for such great quality, really can't be beat. If you'd like to sign up for Unmentionably Cheeky, make sure to use the code FALL13 to get the deal of 2 panties for $6!

sweater weather, sales, & a good book

Sprinkles and Style || Sweater Weather

I noticed at the end of October that I've been spending a crazy amount of time on the internet and on my computer. I decided to take a step back and disconnect {just a little bit!} for part of the week, hence the lack of posts. It was great to come home at the end of the day and actually read a book {something I've been neglecting for far too long} instead of hopping onto my laptop. You should try it sometime! It was quite refreshing!

While I'm not fully participating in this week's Friday's Fancies, I thought I would mention a few of my favorite sweaters. It's been chilly lately so I've been rocking these nearly every day.
  • These cotton v-neck sweaters from J. Crew Factory have become my new favorite! I want one in every color. Even better, they're currently on sale for 30% off with the code BIGSALE.
  • Do you remember when J. Crew made Jackie pullovers? I loved those and was sad when they stopped popping up in stores. J. Crew Factory has come to the rescue though with these crewneck cotton pullovers, which are also on sale!
  • I've become a fan of Old Navy again. After I found {and purchased} their graphic sweaters, I have been checking the website every so often for other things. The sweaters are still my top pick. How cute is this little bow-tie wearing dog sweater?
  • I know they aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I really like wearing turtlenecks. So of course, turtleneck sweaters are one of my go-tos in the colder months. I like these from the Gap {on sale with the code GAPFRIENDS} because they're so comfortable and soft. I highly recommend checking them out!

So I am going to sign off again for the weekend while I try to read a bit more {Allegiant is calling my name} and do some holiday gift guide research {coming soon!}. Happy weekend!

eat this, wear that: vanilla blackberry mascarpone cake

Over the weekend, I noticed the endless amount of blackberries that were at the store. They looked so good so I knew that I needed to include it in this week's Eat This, Wear That.

Sprinkles and Style || Eat This, Wear That: Vanilla Blackberry Mascarpone Cake
With fall in full swing, shades of purple and wine have been my go-to for most outfits. I loved the look of the silk track pants and thought I would pair with other pieces in similar shades for this look - casual with a men's button-down but dressed up with a pretty pair of pumps. Topped with accessories in a girly mint shade and this outfit is complete.

Happy Monday!

Sprinkles and Style || Hello November!

Hello November!

The fall season is in full swing and the holidays are right around the corner. How crazy is that?! Unfortunately for me, I'm starting the month with a headache I've had for three days {anyone have any tips?} so I am most definitely looking forward to the weekend. I'm thinking lots of sleep and cappuccinos for me. Not necessarily a bad thing in my book... But hopefully I'll be able to fit in some fun activities in there too!

Happy weekend!

video: october favorites

Happy Halloween!

Halloween means the end of the month of October, which means that it's time for another favorites video. Two videos in one week? Just a little treat for you!

Some makeup, perfume, and home scents made it into this month's favorite things. And have you seen Orange is the New Black? If not, I highly suggest carving out some time to do that! What were some things you loved in the month of October?

video: what's in my bag? {work edition}

I've been meaning to do this post for awhile now and was glad that I finally had some time to film it over the weekend.

When I was looking for a work bag, I needed something that was structured and roomy because I carry a lot with me on a normal work day. This Michael Kors tote is the perfect size and the shape that I was looking for.

To be honest, this bag is kind of empty for a work day. Sometimes you can also find my iPad, a pair of heels {or flats}, and a water bottle stowed away in there. Trust me, this thing is really roomy.

If you're looking for a work bag, I highly suggest giving this one some thought. It may seem pricey, but it's worth the investment!

eat this, wear that: candy corn bark

Halloween is just a few days away and while it may not be something I'm that excited about, I still couldn't resist in taking part of the celebrations. This candy corn bark just looked too delicious to pass up and style.

I'll be honest, the idea of styling a look that had paired such bold colors of orange and yellow was too intimidating. I took a safer route and used them to brighten up the neutral color palette of this simple outfit. You can never go wrong with black and white, adding orange and yellow just make it more festive for Halloween.

Happy Monday!

friday's fancies: halloween boo-tiful

When I set out to create this week's Friday's Fancies look, I found this dress and decided immediately that it would be the one piece I needed to include. The black and white print just screamed "Halloween horror film" to me. It looks a little bit eerie, don't you think?...

Like I mentioned in my Fall in Love Tag video, I'm not a huge Halloween fan so this look is pretty minimal. I still love it though and think it has just enough bright orange, eerie white, and vampy purple to keep in the spirit!

Happy weekend! Hope it's a great one!

what to wear: navy & black

Navy and black has been my favorite color combo as of late. I used to think that there was no way you could wear these two together; both colors are so dark that it was almost monotone and kind of clashed. Well, I have been so wrong. Whether it's clothes or just accessories, these two look chic and classy together. And no matter the occasion, this pairing is great for the season.

Three outfit ideas that, if I had all of these pieces in my closet, I would definitely wear at some point this season. I just can't get enough of this color pairing!

What are some of your favorite color combos this season?
