emerald green

I've said it so many times and I'll say it again - I really love the color green, especially emerald green. I've been admiring so many items in this shade for quite some time now. Luckily for my wallet, I'm trying to save rather than spend so I will just have to keep some of these on my wish list for now.

If it weren't for my current spending freeze, I'd make those pumps, sweater, and BaubleBar bracelets mine as soon as possible.

What are some of your favorite emerald green picks? I'd love to see what you have to share!

beauty budget: nars turkish delight dupes

I'm a huge fan of NARS Cosmetics. I think their blushes are phenomenal {Orgasm, Douceur, and Dolce Vita are my favorites}, their bronzers are perfect {I wear Laguna}, and their eyeliners are the best out there.

But I'm just not a huge fan of their lip gloss. Even though Turkish Delight is a very pretty and popular color, I can't bring myself to jump on the bandwagon. I think their glosses have this weird plastic smell that hits you right as you open the tube and lingers on your lips. So while I love the range of colors, I can't justify spending the money on them.

Luckily, I've found other lip glosses that are pretty similar and come at a lower price point.

The pictures aren't really true to their color because when you see them in person, these two drugstore picks are much more similar than they look. Baby Blossom from L'Oreal is probably the closet of the two since NARS is a bit pinker than Revlon, but both are worth a try. I think the quality, finish, and texture are all extremely comparable. At just a third of the price {will vary depending on where you buy}, you'd be saving yourself quite a bit of money.

And who doesn't love that?

designer digs: monique lhuillier

Last week, my mom and I somehow found ourselves talking about Monique Lhuillier. I was really surprised when she told me that the famed designer was Filipino {she's actually half} and born in the Philippines. It's not often that I hear of Filipino designers so it was certainly a fun tid bit to discover.

Then, adding another reason to my growing list of why I love her, her home was featured on The Coveteur. Beautiful greenery, natural light, and serene colors houses shelves upon shelves of shoes, an enviable Birkin collection, and an impressive walk-in closet.

eat this, wear that: cranberry and touches of green

How yummy and pretty does this cranberry and lime tart with white chocolate shavings look?  I can only imagine how delicious it must be with it's combination of tart, fresh, and rich ingredients.  And the colors are just too pretty to resist!  I like that this outfit is simple but still has dark and bright colors mixed together.  Burgundy paired with kelly green and stark white - dark and bright for the beginning of the the work week! What makes this look even better is that all not a single item is over $75! Perfect for the girl on a budget.

Happy Monday!

friday's fancies: black and white

At the beginning of the year, I shared a post on one of my favorite color combinations - black and white. It's classic and so effortless that you really can never go wrong.

I love the windowpane pattern of the Madewell blouse and the bright and sheer pink lip color. And if it weren't for the price tag, I don't think I'd be able to resist those RED Valentino bow rain boots. They'd be pretty perfect with light snow showers in today's weather forecast. Really, I wouldn't mind adding any of these pieces to my already overflowing closet!

Tell me, do you love the classic black and white pairing?

Have a great weekend!

rent back

If there was one thing I really disliked about college, it was trying to sell back my textbooks. I would get so annoyed when I would buy an expensive textbook at the beginning of the semester, only to not be able to sell it back to the bookstore {or one of those shady vans on the street} once the class was over. It also really bothered me when I was able to return it but would only get a few dollars back. Did/does anyone else have this problem?

Luckily, there is a new program from CampusBookRentals that solves this problem. They reached out to me about their RentBack program and I knew I had to share it with all of you. While I may not be in school anymore, I know that I would have appreciated a program like this while still in college. The premise is simple: send your books to Campus Book Rentals and get money every time yours is rented.

Image via || Who doesn't love a fun infographic?
Simple and easy! I recommend looking into this program and giving it a try if you are still in school and find yourself in need to selling your textbooks.
Happy Thursday!

*Note: CampusBookRentals reached out to me to write about their RentBack program. This is a sponsored post. All opinions are my own.

sprinkles, style, and sights: chicago weekend

Waiting at the airport || Visiting The Bean with friends || Jay Pritzker Pavilion || Drinks at The Signature Room || View from the ladies room {the best!} || Deep dish and cheesy garlic bread at Pequod's || Sunday brunch at John's Place || Cupcakes, cookies, and other sweet treats from Sweet Mandy B's

After being delayed just a bit in Newark, I made it to Chicago on Friday night to spend the weekend with three of my friends. It was my first time there so we visited a few tourist attractions and went to their favorite restaurants, bars, shops, and bakeries. Even though the weather was a bit colder than we've had here lately in the city, I enjoyed walking around and sharing so many laughs with them. I loved it so much that I'm already thinking of when I can get head back to the Windy City!

eat this, wear that: tropical yellow

After spending the weekend visiting friends, a light treat like this fruit and yogurt smoothie is the perfect {and delicious!} way to give the body a break after eating so much good food. And while I'm not usually a fan of yellow, I like the monochromatic look of this outfit. Light and pastel on top with a brighter punch on bottom. Add pretty, but neutral accessories and shoes and the yellow will really stand out.

Happy Monday!

friday's fancies: outfit crush

Do you notice how well-dressed celebrities are when they're photographed at the airport? Whenever I see those images, I'm instantly reminded of how I never look so perfectly put together and styled when carrying my luggage through security and to my gate. After seeing this {and many others} image of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in one of her stylish outfits, I am inspired to consider putting together a look that is a bit more chic for travel.

I  typically wear leggings or yoga pants to the airport because I like to go for comfort. She is clearly able to mix style and comfort and look amazing while traveling.

Head over to long distance loving to see more outfit crushes!

Have a great weekend!

take me away: perfect luggage

I have a fun trip planned for this weekend. I'll be traveling to Chicago, a city I've never been to {already making progress on my 101 in 1001!}, and I could not be more excited! I can't wait to see the sites, eat some deep dish, and, of course, spend time with my friends.

I took this as a chance to get some new carry-on luggage since the one I currently have is a bit heavy. I had a hard time choosing between weekender duffles and spinner carry-ons though. Duffles tend to hurt my shoulders, but I'm beginning to think that having one of these pretty things would make up for that pain.

As much as I love all of those duffles, I gave myself a budget of $100. My mom suggested going to TJ Maxx because they have a pretty large selection of luggage. Luckily, there's one close to my apartment so I headed over and walked out with one that I really love!

The London Fog suitcase is so similar to what I purchased. I absolutely love the print! The Deux Lux weekender is calling my name though. How pretty is the combination of stripes and gold sequined sides?

What do you use for your weekend getaways?

my 101 in 1001

 {image via}

Inspired by Mackenzie and so many others, I decided to write my own list of 101 things to accomplish in 1001 days. It was much harder to write than I anticipated and actually took me a few days to complete. Now that it's done though, I can't wait to get started! With a set end date of October 14, 2015 {about 2.75 years}, I'm hoping to be able to cross off the majority - if not all - of these things.

I didn't want to bombard you with the full list so here are just a few:

2. Get a massage.

19. Go on a staycation.

21. Learn how to ride a bike.

35. Go on a picnic.

47. Volunteer at a soup kitchen.

50. Make white chocolate chip bread.

54. Improve my posture.

62. Learn how to sew.

68. Find the best cupcakes in New York City.

86. Find my perfect shade of red, pink, and coral lipstick.

See the rest of my list here!

eat this, wear that: orange and parsley

Did you watch the Golden Globes last night? Who is on your best dressed list? There was a lot of red, but I think Jennifer Garner wore that color best. Some other favorites from last night were Jessica Alba, Lucy Liu, Rachel Weisz, and Hayden Pannettiere.

And noticeably absent from the awards was Meryl Streep. She was apparently sick with the flu, which makes for the perfect segway into this...

This salad is a great way to get in some Vitamin C since the flu is rampant this year. Add some to your wardrobe with a bright orange sweater and blouse. Pair it with some kelly green jeans {currently on sale with an additional 30% off at J. Crew!} and neutral accessories for a bright and happy outfit to beat those Monday blues.

Hope you're all staying healthy during flu season! Happy Monday!

friday's fancies: emerald city

I'm a May baby, whose favorite color is emerald green, so you can only imagine how excited I was when Pantone named emerald green as the color of the year. My eyes are usually drawn to any shade of green when I walk into a store so putting together a look with this divine color was not a hard task at all.

I love the pairing of emerald green and black because it feels so luxurious to me. And mixing cable knit, leather, and suede? Perfect for a night out. Or swap out the heels for sneakers or flats and wear this on the weekend while walking around town or heading to lunch with the girls.

Are you loving this color as much as I am? Head over to long distance loving for more emerald green looks!

Happy Friday! Have a wonderful weekend!

take me away: european views

Ville D'Este || Lake Como, Italy
During the four months I studied abroad in France, I did my fair share of traveling. I wasn't able to visit all of the cities I had on my list, but I certainly went to some spectacular places! Since then, I've dreamed of traveling across the Atlantic and seeing more European sites. For now, I'll just be admiring the views in these spectacular photos.

Old Course Hotel Golf & Spa || St. Andrews, Scotland

Hotel Santa Caterina || Amalfi, Italy
Londra Palace || Venice, Italy
Le Meurice || Paris, France

I wouldn't mind waking up in my hotel room and seeing some of these breathtaking views. Here's to dreams of Europe!

warm in winter coats

I can admit that until a few weeks ago I wore my puffer coat to work. Though I was warm, I was feeling too casual when I wanted to look more polished. I've decided to keep it in my closet {unless the weather deems is completely necessary} and have started wearing my other coats that are more appropriate for the 9-to-5 grind.

Any of these would be just a pretty and perfect to wear to the office. I love the flared hem of the Moschino jacket - so pretty and girly! The dark green fit and flare? Love that too. The fur collared army jacket would be a great transition piece from winter to spring and again from fall to winter.

And a fun fact: January is one of the best times to buy jackets and coats because so many will be on sale! So now you can snatch up some pretty things like this Zara coat or this one from J. Crew!

six little piggies

One of my resolutions for this year to put away and save some money. I'm not doing it just to be able to buy myself some nice things {though there are a few on my list!}, but I like knowing that I have a certain amount stashed away. I have a pretty little piggy bank that my mom spray painted gold for me sitting in my apartment. It hasn't been much more than a decorative piece - until now! I've decided to start dropping in a few coins and extra dollars every now and then. I think it will be a nice surprise when I finally decide to empty it out and see how much is in it!

eat this, wear that: green smoothie

Be healthier, get in shape, lose weight - these are probably some of the most common resolutions made every year. And I can't lie. It's on my list of goals for 2013. So why not try this green monster smoothie and purchase some new work out gear to match? Emerald green is the color of the year and I love it paired with grey and orange. New cute and simple clothes in bright and happy colors will surely have you ready to kick some butt at the gym!

Happy Monday!
Fun Fact: I belong to the Reebok Sports Club but prefer Nike over anything Reebok.

friday's fancies: new year, new you

I've said it several times before but just in case you didn't know, I'm not a huge fan of the color pink, especially when it comes to clothes. When shopping, I tend to gravitate towards neutrals, blues, and greens. This year, one of my goals is to be bold and try new things. So I'm going to take the leap and incorporate more pink into my closet.

I'm tackling two goals here - incorporating pink and putting together a more polished work outfit. If I could find items similar to these that fit my budget, I'd definitely wear this to the office. It still has the neutrals that I'm comfortable in but adds a pretty and bright pop of pink. I actually really like this!

Have a great weekend!

black and white

While one of my goals for this year is to incorporate more color into my wardrobe, I am currently loving the combination of black and white. It's effortless, classic, and so chic. A simple color pairing of two neutrals that looks beautiful together or with a pop of color.

happy new year!

I hope you all had a great New Year's Eve! It's pretty crazy to think that it's the start of a new year already, isn't it? The latter half of 2012 and the holiday season just seemed to fly by if you ask me!

And as with every new year, there are resolutions and goals to be set. I thought a lot about my list during the month of December and think I've finally narrowed it down to some things that I'll be able to stick with and complete!

1. Organize my apartment.
I have so many papers, documents, checks, etc. in my apartment and have never set out a file system for them. They've all accumulated in one place but have gotten mixed in the process. I've already started looking for folders and storage bins to finally organize everything.

2. Get serious about health and fitness.
I can happily say that I started on my goal of losing weight after college. I know it's a work in progress though so I'm hoping that in 2013 I'll start eating healthier and working out more. I want to incorporate more vegetables and fruits into my diet and set an exercise schedule.

3. Put away money each month for those bigger purchases.
There have been those bigger {and more expensive} purchases that I've thought of making for quite some time now. Due to their hefty price tags, I know this means I have to cut the spending on clothes, make up, and other knick-knacks I find myself buying each month. It may be hard in the beginning, but my bank account and credit card will be glad to have a break.

4. Explore NYC.
I haven't explored the city too much since moving here. While I've walked around the Upper West Side often, I have yet to really see what else New York has to offer. Restaurants, coffee shops, bodegas - there is so much more to see!

5. Branch out and be brave.
For me, this applies to so many things. I want to learn something new, try something new, visit some place new. I've decided that 2013 will be the year to look at all of things I've wanted to do and actually do it.

So there's my list. What are some of your goals for the new year?
