a polka dot wall

When I started thinking of how I wanted to decorate my apartment, I knew that I wanted to have some type of accent wall. It took me awhile to actually pull the trigger because I wasn't sure what it was that I really wanted. Did I want to paint it a solid color or a design? Did I want a gallery wall or maybe just one row of frames? I was having a really difficult time choosing.

Enter Urban Walls.

I can't remember how exactly I stumbled upon Urban Walls, but I am so glad I did! I had decided to put gold polka dots on my wall and luckily for me Danielle, the mastermind behind Urban Walls, had those exact decals. Once I received my order, I adhered them {much quicker and easier than I thought!} and absolutely loved how it turned out.

They're not really even but I think it gives the wall character - and you can't really tell when you're standing in front of it.

An order will get you 50 dots and I needed about 65 for my wall. Danielle was kind enough to send me a second pack for free, but I definitely would have paid for them if I had to.

If you're looking for some wall decor, I highly suggest visiting the Urban Walls store! Just browse through the endless decals {I love these anchors and this chalk frame} and you will surely find something for you.

Note: This post was not sponsored by Danielle or Urban Walls. I am writing this review because I genuinely love this product and this store!

eat this, wear that: black and grey tea cakes

When I saw these Earl Grey Tea Cakes, I was immediately drawn to the classic color pairing and chic look of black with grey designs. Black pieces like pants, a blazer, and heels are things you most likely have in your closet so it wouldn't be hard to put a look like this together. Add a grey sweater to keep you warm {this one really is darling} and accessories in similar shades to complete the look. A swipe of a pretty sheer pink lip balm finishes this outfit.

Happy Monday!

friday's fancies: red carpet ready

Are you excited for the Oscars on Sunday? I know that I will be in front of the TV watching, especially all those red carpet interviews to see who everyone is wearing. I won't lie and say that it's not one of my favorite parts of any award show because it really is. And when it comes to the Oscars, you know the stars will be dressed to the nines.

This mint gown instantly caught by eye because of the color, silhouette, and the beautiful deco-inspired jeweled belt. I couldn't resist in pairing it with another set of deco-inspired earrings and other accessories in complimentary shades of pink. If I were going to an awards show as big as the Oscars, I would definitely want to be wearing something like this.

I hope you have a great weekend!

my first ever video!

Despite awful lighting {there is ZERO natural light in my apartment} and having to film on my computer, I decided to make my very first YouTube video! So completely nerve wracking but worth it in the end. I've been thinking about doing this for so long but never had the guts to just sit down somewhere and film. Well, I sucked it up last night and filmed this little Birchbox Unboxing video!

Vasanti BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator || Skin&Co Bagnodoccia Body Gel || Jouer Matte Moisture Tint || Lancôme HYPNÔSE STAR

It took a few tries, but I finally did it! I'm actually a bit excited to take this on {it's another thing on my 101 in 1001 list} and make more in the future!

So tell me, what did you get in your Birchbox?

over the long weekend...

A reminder of my makeup spending freeze || Unsalted crackers, water, and ginger ale for sick days || A funny iPhone case that made me want the iPhone 5 immediately || A newly sized watch, a restrung pearl bracelet, and new bangles || A new digital camera and my new Alex & Ani jewelry || Beach scented candles, pretty flip flops, and a new bathing suit top that have me excited for vacation || Ended the weekend with my first ever massage

Though I didn't feel so great on Friday, my long weekend ended up to be very busy and full of shopping. I traveled home to the suburbs and spent some quality time with my mom. We even went to a dine-in movie theater to have a fun dinner while seeing Safe Haven. After a busy weekend, we ended it with massages at the spa - my first one ever and another thing to check off my 101 in 1001!

Hope you had a lovely weekend!

eat this, wear that: thai chicken soup

Have you seen the new show That Taste? If not, you should! It's a food competition where all the contestants essentially make a complete dish and then put all of those flavors and tastes on a spoon for the judges. Sounds tough doesn't it? I've been watching since it premiered and was so excited to see one of my favorite food bloggers, By Sarah Ashley, as a contestant on the show! If you haven't already, watch all the episodes online before the fifth one on Tuesday night.

One of her more recent recipes is one for Thai Chicken Soup. Tell me that doesn't sound like a delicious way to keep warm in the winter. Since I've got the day off today, I'll be spending it in comfortable clothes like these velour pants {I love my pair so I'm not sorry that I included these} and sweater. Light makeup, stylish eyewear, and neutral accessories and your look is complete for the day off.

Happy Monday!

friday's fancies: red and pink

Did you all have a wonderful Valentine's Day? I spent the night in and made myself a delicious dinner of spinach and ricotta ravioli before turning in early. Sounds pretty perfect to me! But then I woke up not feeling so great so that was a bit of a bummer.

A pretty outfit always makes me feel better - or at least that's what I'm like to think. A silk blouse and high heels with just a few {but fun!} accessories is always a good way to go.

Pink and red pieces aren't colors you'll find much of in my closet. I am trying to branch out though and started with a Coach bag in red for Christmas. It's become one of my favorite bags so I think I'll start incorporating the color more into my wardrobe. And if possible, I'm going to start with those shoes!

Head over to long distance loving to see other red and pink looks!

And you can also find me on Adored by Alex sharing some pretty pastel polishes that have me dreaming of spring weather! Make sure you stop by her blog, it's one of my favorites!

Enjoy the long weekend!

valentine's night in

I've noticed so many date night looks and outfit ideas for Valentine's Day and thought that there should be some options for those who plan on treating themselves to a night in. There isn't much you need other than pretty sleepwear, yummy treats, and fun reads and you're all set for a night of pampering.

Eberjey 'Giovanna' Chemise || Kate Spade + The Lake and Stars Silk Chemise || Bodas Nightdress || Deborah Lippmann Polishes in 'It's Raining Men' and 'Groove is in the Heart'  || Masqueology Anti-Oxidant Mask || Twistband Hair Ties || Instyle Magazine and Allure Magazine || Cupcake Merlot Wine and West Elm Stemless Glass || Chocolate Molten Lava Cake

A night in doesn't sound so bad now, does it? I think a night of pampering is just what we all need! If you're looking for some decadent treats to whip up tomorrow, try these Valentine's Day desserts or this chocolate raspberry icebox cake.

mardi gras

Last year, I put together some recipes and dishes for Fat Tuesday. This year, I decided to go with a quick and simple outfit in Mardi Gras green, purple, and yellow. I toned it down just a bit because I know that I'm just not daring enough and personally wouldn't wear all three vibrant colors at one time. Usually I'm not drawn to yellow things, but I am really loving these heels from Sole Society. To buy or not to buy?...

Happy Mardi Gras!

eat this, wear that: pink and red icebox cake

Valentine's Day is just a few days away and I think this icebox cake would make for a beautiful and yummy dessert to serve. How pretty are those ombre whipped cream layers? Red and pink are obvious color choices for a Valentine's Day outfit and I like it toughened up with a bit of black. Red lips, white nails, and 'XO' studs fitting for the day complete this look. No matter where you wear this, you'll feel pretty all day.

What are your plans for Valentine's Day?

Happy Monday!

valentine's day makeup

I recently cleaned out my makeup drawers in preparation of an upcoming makeup spending freeze and realized just how much I had and never used. Looking at everything inspired me to put together two makeup looks that would be appropriate for Valentine's Day, no matter how you spend it.

Wearing bright pink eyeshadow can be intimidating {and not always so flattering} so opt for a shimmery rose gold shade paired with a matte chocolate brown. A neutral peach-toned blush and a pink {I consider this my "my lips but better" shade} lip butter are great complements to the look. And if you're looking for high quality and inexpensive makeup brushes, Sigma is the way to go. They're affordable and so comparable to the more expensive brushes.

For the second look, keep your eyeshadow and blush neutral and play up your lips and lashes. Wear some false eyelashes that look natural but add just the right amount of volume and pair it with lip color that packs a major punch and won't wear off. I'm loving Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics right now because you need the tiniest amount to get a really opaque color. Memento and NSFW are my favorites! If you find that your lipstick is too drying and isn't lasting quite as long as you'd like, make sure to exfoliate beforehand and apply moisturizer first.

Have a great weekend! And if you're in the Northeast, enjoy the snow!

My parents and I are heading to Atlanta, GA the first weekend in April for the NCAA Final Four and the Masters. It's been a few years since we've been there as a family so we're all looking forward to the trip. Since it's a pretty big sports weekend, the city is going to be incredibly busy. That means restaurant reservations need to be made soon.

We're staying at The Ritz-Carlton, which seems to be in a pretty central location, and are looking for some great restaurants in the area. If you know of any, leave a comment, send me an email, and let me know what some of your favorites are!

chocolate and fruit desserts

With Valentine's Day just a little over a week away, chocolate desserts are on my mind. Last year, I shared a few treats to indulge in and thought I would share a few more. Chocolate, fruit, and crème brûlée? Too delicious to pass up on the 14th.

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Cupcakes || Chocolate Molten Lava Cakes || Black Pepper Raspberry Sorbet with Prosecco || Crème Brûlée with Fresh Fruit || White Chocolate Raspberry Tart || Double Chocolate Espresso Pound Cake with Rose Scented Cream Cheese Frosting || Chocolate Strawberry Oasis Pie || Roasted Cherry Chocolate Tart

I would not be able to turn down any of these. Make them for you and your date, you and your girlfriends, or just for yourself. No matter who you make it for, they are sure to be decadent and delicious.

Any of these desserts catching your eye?

eat this, wear that: lavender and lemon

A purple and yellow outfit seemed appropriate for today since the Ravens won the Superbowl last night. Soft yellow velvet jeans and a warm cardigan in a true purple lets you wear team colors without wearing the usual team jersey. Paired with gold accessories and polish in the color "Swagga Like Us" {both seemed appropriate} and the look is complete. The floral and citrus pairing of lavender and lemon curd are the perfect simple and elegant cupcake pairing to make to celebrate their win.

Happy Monday!

friday's fancies: après-ski

I'm pretty sure the last time I did any type of winter-related activity {that wasn't shoveling snow}, I was probably in my early teens. Maybe even younger. I took snowboarding lessons while in Vermont with my parents, but I can't really remember whether or not I enjoyed myself. Either way, I know that I was probably relieved {I fell down a lot} once I was out of the cold and the lessons were over. I wouldn't be opposed to trying it again though!

Nowadays, I would love to curl up in a winter lodge after a few hours on the slopes in an outfit just like this.

A warm sweater and boots with easy layers is a definite must. I love and wear makeup too much to skip it, but I would choose products with that are long wearing but not heavy and have SPF - another must! All you need to complete this outfit is a warm fire, big comfy chair, and a steaming mug of hot chocolate. How lovely does that sound?

Take a look at other après-ski outfits on long distance loving!

Have a great weekend! And Happy February! {Where did January go? Seriously.}
