style caddy & starting fresh

If you couldn't tell, I got into a bit of rut here on Sprinkles and Style. In fact, it really started last fall. I was feeling so uninspired and limited, like this blog just wasn't what I wanted it to be and that I wasn't writing and creating content that made me happy.

Of course, I had the option of just taking a bit of time to regroup and collect my thoughts and hopefully put something together that would just make everything click. But then I realized that maybe what I really needed was a fresh start.

I'm not really saying good-bye to the blogging world, just a welcome back... but elsewhere! You can now find me blogging over at Style Caddy, a place that will have some similar content - fashion, food, beauty - with a little bit of golf thrown in. I hope you'll all join me there!

off to texas!

Off to Texas! {image via heyclaire} || Sprinkles and Style

I'm off to Texas for the weekend for a few days filled with college basketball and golf. It's become a bit of a family tradition to take a trip to the Final Four, and in the past few years we've been throwing in a little bit of PGA golf too. To say I'm excited would be an understatement! Unfortunately, my Syracuse Orange didn't even make it to the Sweet 16 this year {major bummer!} so I'm not packing any team attire this time. I've packed a few of my favorites though, like these sunnies, this scalloped romper, these scalloped shorts, and some comfy sneakers in anticipation of the much warmer temperatures. I can't wait for sunny days and lots of sports! Which team are you rooting for in the tournament?

See you next week! Have a great weekend!

april showers

The saying goes "April showers bring May flowers." Here's an outfit to keep you dry during those rainy days.

April Showers || Sprinkles and Style

I'm not a fan of using umbrellas so I try to avoid it at all costs, no matter how hard it's raining. I prefer to wear hooded coats whenever there's even the slightest chance of rain. You can only imagine how many of the coats in my closet double as rain coats.

Hope you're all staying dry!

Here are a few other rain coats that I'm loving for this weather!

march favorites

Usually I would film a video of the things I loved during the month, but with just four favorites for March, I thought a quick post was just easier. A short list of favorites is a good thing though! It shows just how much I really loved these products since I reached for them every day.

March 2014 Favorites || Sprinkles and Style

Clinique All About Shadow Quad in Jenna's Essentials :: I think Clinique is a makeup brand that just doesn't get enough love. I've been using their products since my dance recital days when I was just a little kid! This eyeshadow quad is one that is great to use for a natural daytime look or a nighttime smokey eye. Jenna Menard, Clinique's Global Colour Artist, knew was she was doing when she put this one together. You really have everything you need all in this quad.

NYX Butter Gloss in Maple Blondie :: This peachy-pink gloss is great for the spring and summer. It's a sheer to medium coverage gloss, isn't too sticky and is great alone, on top of a lip liner, or over lipstick. Even better, it's super affordable {currently on sale at Ulta!} and smells like cake batter.

Benefit Gimme Brow in Medium/Deep :: Before this month, I was using a pencil to fill in my brows. I'd heard a lot about this product though so I decided to give it a try. If you're looking for a quick way to fill in your brows and set them, then this is the product for you.

Divergent Soundtrack :: I loved the trilogy so I had high hopes for the film. I wasn't disappointed, and I actually loved it more than the book. I've been listening to the soundtrack on repeat everyday. "Find You" by Zedd and all four Ellie Goulding songs are my favorites.

What did you love during the month of March?

Happy Monday!

overall thoughts

Overall Thoughts {Atlantic-Pacific} || Sprinkles and Style

Overall Thoughts {Sincerely Jules} || Sprinkles and Style

I have to ask because I've been back and forth on this trend for quite some time {and Blair of Atlantic-Pacific makes it look so chic} - what are your thoughts on overalls? Sometimes I see it and think "Hello 1990s!", and other days I think it's one of the best trends out there. Whenever I've been doing some online window shopping, I always search out a pair. There are definitely some affordable options out there that make me want to just pull the trigger and purchase them.

So what do you think of overalls? Do you think you may rock a pair for the spring and summer?

Here are a few that I've considered buying!

what to watch: the short game

What to Watch: The Short Game || Sprinkels and Style

Last year, I wrote a few posts about golf - everything from pictures from the Masters, outfit ideas, and even recipes. I played golf in high school, but my love for the sport didn't really start until after college. Going to tournaments is so different and so much better than watching it on TV.

The documentary The Short Game came out in September of 2013, but it wasn't until just a few weeks ago that I finally sat down and watched it. To say that I loved it would be an understatment. These kids are just 7 and 8 years-old and yet, they are already so much better than I ever was and will be at this game. They drive it farther than I do, they chip better than I do, they read greens better than I do. It's amazing! Seeing them compete at Pinehurst and what they do in terms of practice and training is remarkable. You know that some, if not all, of them will be the next golf phenom.

But don't think that this move is all serious business, they are just kids after all. Their personalities really shine in this movie and you get the sense that while they do want to win, there's a part of them that just wants to be a kid and run around acting silly with friends. I did cry at one part, but overall, this one is sure to put a smile on your face.

If you haven't seen this yet, I highly, highly, highly suggest doing it soon!

guest post: adored by alex

I asked Alex from Adored by Alex to write this week's second guest post and was thrilled when she agreed! I've been reading her blog since 2013 and love her sense of style!

Guest Post: Adored by Alex || Sprinkles and Style

Hi there Sprinkles and Style readers! Alex Carreno here from Adored by Alex posting while Sheri Ann is on vacation (boy am I jealous). Considering it's March and the light at the end of the wintery-vortex tunnel is in sight, I am totally experiencing a case of spring fever. Give me prints and color to help welcome warmer temps and brighter days ahead. Did I mention I'm obsessing over prints? Give me those gingham pumps asap and Equipment seriously kills it every season! Pair a fun graphic clutch for day or evening and you've most definitely got my attention. Happy shopping!

Don't you love her spring picks? The first day of spring is tomorrow so I am definitely ready to break out the florals and brighter colors when I get back home. How cute is that blouse and that clutch?

Thanks again Alex! If you haven't already, you should be adding her blog to your to-read lists!

guest post: beauty & the beard

As promised, I asked two of my favorite bloggers {and wonderful ladies!} to put together a guest post while I'm gone for the week. The first is coming from Laura of Beauty & the Beard. I've been reading her blog for nearly three years, essentially since it started so you know I'm a fan. I'm so glad and honored that she put this together for Sprinkles and Style!

Hi lovely Sprinkles and Style readers! I'm Laura from Beauty & the Beard- and I'm thrilled to be here while Sheri Ann is on vacation (lucky lady!). It's finally starting to feel a little bit like spring around here - which means it's time to get out there and get some new spring-y outfits in my lineup...starting with this one:

It's been winter long enough that I already have a list a mile long of places I'd love to wear an outfit like this! I'm beyond ready to toss the boots in the back of the closet and throw on some cute flats-you know what I mean??

What are you most looking forward to wearing this spring?
xo, lp

*thanks for having me sheri ann!

If you haven't read Laura's blog, then I suggest heading over right now and giving it a read. She covers it all - fashion, lifestyle, jewelry, and, my personal favorite, food recipes - and does it so well. Thanks again Laura!

what's in my beach makeup bag?

As I've gotten older, the amount of makeup I bring with me on beach vacations has gone down significantly. I used to pack my makeup bag full to the brim with different eyeshadow palettes, blushes, and lip colors. And while I still have packed more lippies than I probably need, I'm proud that I've stopped taking so many other things that I know I won't wear.

Watch my new video to take a look at what I'm taking with me on this beach vacation!

Don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel! You can see a full list of the products I brought there.

And don't forget that I have two great guest posts coming tomorrow and Wednesday. They'll definitely have you ready for the first day of spring!

time for a getaway

Beach Getaway {image via The Cherry Blossom Girl} || Sprinkles and Style

I'm heading off tomorrow to warmer temperatures and I can't wait! We got a little taste of spring-like weather here last weekend, but it's been cold the past few days. I can't wait for sunny days, where my only concern will be what to read while lounging on the beach.

I have a few posts lined up for next week, including some from two of my favorite bloggers, so make sure to come back for those.

Have a great week!

lucky charms chocolate chip cookies

{St. Patrick's Day} Lucky Charms Chocolate Chip Cookies || Sprinkles and Style

I rarely pass up a chance to bake, and with St. Patrick's Day coming up, I knew that I wanted to whip up a fun recipe. I spent hours browsing on Pinterest for something before finally deciding upon these Lucky Charms chocolate chip cookies. And I was not disappointed

Chocolate chip cookies are already a classic. Add in a classic cereal and it only gets better, especially when the cereal pieces are cooked in butter and sugar. I even added some green and orange food coloring to mine to just add a bit more to the St. Patrick's Day-theme. Crisp and sweet cereal pieces, chocolate chips, sugary marshmallow pieces, and fun colors? So delicious and best served with a cold glass of milk.

monday morning reads

Morning Coffee {image via This is Glamorous}
{Image via This is Glamorous}

I woke up yesterday morning just a little bit... off. It was most likely a combination of daylight savings time and my long walk around the city on Saturday, but I actually thought it was Monday! I was scrambling around my apartment at 10 AM thinking I was late for work. Silly me!

Once I realized my mistake {and had a good laugh}, I decided to just take it easy and spent the rest of the morning perusing the internet. Some online window shopping and good articles are a pretty good way to relax if you ask me.

-- I pinned this quote because it rings so true for me right now. It's better to let it go than keep negativity in your life.

-- My dad sent this article about a family that connects with their son through Disney and its animated films. The story is very touching and just so wonderful to see a family come together like this.

-- I have a few trips scheduled for the next few months so I will definitely be taking some of these tips from Refinery29.

-- I'm someone who has trouble sleeping at night so I'm hoping these tips from Self magazine will help.

-- They say that summer bodies are made in the winter and spring, which means that I should probably up my workout routine.

-- Disney-themed cocktails? You don't have to tell me twice!

Happy Monday!

shopping lately: forever21

As I've gotten older {aka out of high school and college} I've forgotten about the great finds that are on the shelves at Forever21. I was browsing online for various things that I want/need for some upcoming trips and rediscovered the brand. I really haven't shopped here in the longest time so I was impressed with the number of cute clothes that I found, especially in their Love21 line. I made a few purchases - these floral sneakers are my favorite - and am planning on heading into a store soon to see what else I can add to my closet. I love J. Crew, but you can't pass up a good bargain!

Here are some other Forever21 goodies that are on my wishlist!

banana chocolate chip muffins

Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins || Sprinkles and Style

Have you noticed the recent increase in recipes posts on the blog lately? I love to cook and bake so I thought it was time to share that little part of my life with you!

I found this recipe and decided that I just needed to make banana chocolate chip muffins as soon as possible. It was my first go at it and, to be completely honest, I didn't love them. I think I overmixed the batter and overbaked them just a tiny bit. I got good feedback from those who tried these so it may just be the perfectionist in me that is being overly critical. Bakers Royale is one of my favorite food blogs with some of the prettiest photos so I know it must have been an error on my part. Trust me, one look at her pictures and you will want to make everything she posts and hope they turn out as pretty as hers!

Any tips for me for the next time I make these muffins?

healthy avocado chicken salad

Healthy Avocado Chicken Salad || Sprinkles and Style

I couldn't help myself and had to share another favorite recipe of mine this week. This one, like the one I posted on Tuesday, is easy and pretty quick to make. It makes quite a large batch of chicken salad so you'll be set for lunch and dinner for some time with this.

I typically like to eat mine with gluten-free crackers {just like in the picture}, carrots and celery, or on top of a mixed green salad with a little bit of hot sauce. Or you could eat it on it's own. It's really just that good.

Healthy Avocado Chicken Salad

5 - 6 chicken breasts, boiled and shredded {I use thin sliced, boneless, and skinless}
1 cup celery, diced
1 avocado, diced
1 container of plain Greek yogurt {about a 1/2 cup}
1/4 cup of light mayo {I consider this to be optional so it's really up to your taste!}
2 1/2 tbsp. of lime juice
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. Mrs. Dash seasoning {I used Original but you can also use salt and pepper}

1. Chop and dice the celery and avocado.
2. In a bowl, mix together all of the ingredients.
3. Keep in a covered container in the refrigerator until ready to eat.

... And that's it! See? Super simple and easy.

spinach, tomato, & mushroom egg muffins

Spinach, Tomato, & Mushroom Egg Muffins || Sprinkles and Style

This recipe for individual egg muffins is a go-to for me when I need something quick and easy to whip up for breakfast or lunch. I use the same egg base every time and just add different vegetables, meats, or cheeses - completely customizable! These are so easy to make and are the perfect portable meal.

Spinach, Tomato, and Mushroom Egg Muffins

2 1/2 cups egg whites
3 eggs
Handful each of spinach, grape tomatoes, and mushrooms
Mrs. Dash seasoning {I used the Italian Medley but you can also just use salt and pepper}
2 tbsp. of water {You can also use milk}
Crumbled goat cheese for topping {optional}

1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray a muffin tin with nonstick cooking spray.
2. Chop all of your vegetables into 1/2 inch or smaller pieces.
3. In a bowl, whisk together the egg whites, eggs, vegetables, Mrs. Dash seasoning, and water.
4. Fill each muffin cup 3/4 of the way full. Top with goat cheese.
5. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
6. Let these cool for five minutes, and then remove from the muffin tin.
7. Enjoy!

These should be stored in the refrigerator after baking. Don't worry if they get a little soggy. Once you reheat them, they'll be just as delicious!

what to watch: documentaries

With so much to watch lately {Oscar-nominated movies, the Olympics, college basketball}, it's easy to forget that there are some great films out there. For the past two months, I've been on a documentary-kick and have watched my fair share on Netflix, YouTube, and iTunes. I find that it's a really great way to unwind at night or start off a Saturday morning.

So grab a drink, a snack, and your laptop - I promise that these documentaries will not leave you disappointed!

Documentaries to Watch - Shaun White: Russia Calling || Sprinkles and Style

Shaun White: Russia Calling || We all know the outcome of Shaun White's Sochi Olympics, but this feature that first aired on NBC in January is still worth watching. It gives a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into the sport and tricks he made look so easy and effortless. You learn a bit about Shaun as a person and how hard he actually can be on himself while he's training. It was really very interesting and made me respect him a lot more as an athlete and person. {This isn't really a documentary, just a 45-minute feature.}

Documentaries to Watch - Blackfish || Sprinkles and Style

Blackfish || This documentary has made quite the buzz since it debuted at Sundance - and with good reason. It's an extremely well done film that gives background to the horrific events that have happened at Sea World over the years. It really makes you think twice about the park and the shows they put on there and whether or not they should be keeping these killer whales in captivity. It can get graphic and really sad at times, but I think this is one definitely worth watching.

Documentaries to Watch - The Book of Manning || Sprinkles and Style

The Book of Manning || My dad first introduced me to ESPN's 30 for 30 films and I've been hooked ever since. Though I didn't see it when it first aired, I made sure I saw The Book of Manning at some point. I'm not a fan of Peyton or Eli as players {both have beaten my favorite team, the Patriots, in the post-season}, but this family's story is pretty great and so touching. You learn the history of this football family - from Archie's legacy {their dad} to Cooper's illness {their oldest brother} and, of course, the great college careers of Peyton and Eli. The love in this family is so great and wonderful to see. Warning, it's a bit of tearjerker, but in a good way.

I plan on watching Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf's sometime this weekend, though I have heard mixed reviews. Have you seen it? Any thoughts?

And if you have any documentary recommendations, I'd love to hear them!

Have a great weekend!

head to toe black

Lately I've been loving the look of head to toe black outfits. It makes getting dressed in the morning so easy when I'm just grabbing for clothes in the same color, knowing that it will all match. Even better, I think an all black outfit is chic, classy, sophisticated, and, of course, slimming. How could you not love that?

Though spring is coming {it might not seem like it with all this snow}, I'm still planning on adding a few more black pieces to my closet. I'm loving this lady-like jacket, these high-waisted jeans, and these affordable heels.

And if you're not into the full monochromatic look, it's easy to add some color with accessories like this leopard print scarf, this set of gold rings {LOVE these!}, and this pale pink bag.

Are you loving these all black outfits?

currently craving: new balance sneakers

New Balance sneakers {and sneakers in general} seem to be all the rage right now. Since seeing the collaboration in the J. Crew Style Guide, I've been contemplating purchasing a colorful pair for myself. I haven't yet pulled the trigger because I can't seem to make up my mind on whether or not I love it enough. I spend some time every day browsing and contemplating, and I think I may end up buying a pair. Now the question is, which one?

Currently Craving: New Balance Sneakers || Sprinkles and Style
How fun are the neon pairs? But with my affinity for all things in neutral shades, I'm leaning towards a pair in beige and blue or grey and white.

simple makeup

I've always preferred the more natural and neutral makeup to anything smokey or dark. While I have a ton of neutral palettes full of shimmery and matte shades, I've been drawn to the latter as of late and love the simple look matte shades create. Add in my go-to winged liner, a rosy-pink blush for that natural flush, and a "my lips but better" lipstick and I'm all set for the day.

raspberry cheesecake brownies

I'm not big on Valentine's Day, but I am a fan of themed desserts. While you could most certainly make this recipe whenever you wanted, I love the flavor combination of this delicious treat for this specific day.

And even better, this recipe is incredibly simple. Because I used a boxed brownie mix. Yes, you read that right - a boxed mix. You can judge me, but it's easy, saves time, and tastes delicious.

Raspberry Cheesecake Brownies || Sprinkles and Style

Raspberry Cheesecake Brownies
{adapted from Just a Taste}

Boxed brownie mix {... or your favorite brownie recipe}

Raspberry Cheesecake Filling:
1 8oz. package of cream cheese, room temperature
1/3 cup of raspberry jam {I used seedless}
1 large egg yolk
red food coloring {optional, I used 12 drops to achieve a bright pink color}

1. Prepare the brownie mix according to the box - oven temperature and all.
2. In a separate bowl, whisk together your cream cheese, raspberry jam, and egg yolk. Make sure your cream cheese is at room temperature to prevent lumps in the mix!
3. Pour brownie mixture into a greased pan {I used a 13x9} and spread evenly. Then, pour raspberry cheesecake mixture on top. Marble these two together by cutting through with a butter knife.
4. Bake the brownies for 20-22 minutes.
5. Let these cool for about 15 minutes, cut, serve, and enjoy!

orange crush

I'm headed up to Syracuse University tomorrow for our big basketball game against Duke and I could not be more excited! It's been a little over two years since I've been back on campus and I can't wait to walk around, even if I know it will be quite cold and there will be snow.

I've been thinking about this trip for weeks now and already know that my bag will be full of orange-colored things. In honor of the weekend and the big game, here are a few of my orange favorites from around the web!

video: product empties #3

This might seem odd, but some of my favorite videos from beauty vloggers on YouTube are their product empties videos. If you think about it, you're really just watching someone go through things they need to throw away, talk about whether or not they liked it, and tell you if they'll be buying it again. A strange thing to like watching isn't it? It's hard to use up a full product, especially makeup, so I think they're pretty fun to watch.

I was watching some YouTube videos yesterday and stumbled upon some from Nikki Phillippi, who is doing a video series this month on how to be happy {hence the hashtag #howtobehappyjanuary}. I thought this topic was so great because, to be completely honest, I am not the type of person that is peppy and bubbly and happy every day. I have bad moments and bad days and bad weeks all the time. But this year, I've tried to make it more of a priority to start seeing the good in each day instead of focusing on the awful and not-so-great things.

What's one way I've started working on how to be happy? Lately I've been putting on some music {current favorite song is "Dark Horse" by Katy Perry} in the morning and dancing around my apartment for 10 minutes or so. Trust me, a short little dance session can completely lift your mood... and get in a quick workout too!

So I want to know - what do you do to lift your spirits and put yourself in a happy mood?

on the bookshelf

I have several goals for this year - some that I've already talked about {be healthy, take better care of my skin} and some that I have yet to talk about.

One of my goals is pretty simple: to read more often. I came up short of my goal to read 35 books last year, but I'm determined to reach it and then exceed it this year! I usually turn to friends for book recommendations so I asked my friend Selby {you may have seen her featured on Levo League's Beyond the Pencil Skirt!} to give a few suggestions of what to keep on a book list for 2014.

2014 is here and with that comes resolutions and goals for your year ahead. For those of you with goals of a literary nature who are unsure of where to start: FEAR NOT. Below is a reading list of the titles to grab now as well as the books to look forward to in the coming months.

2014 Books to Read || Sprinkles and Style
Perfect by Rachel Joyce - The bestselling author who brought us the charming debut, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry returns to the page in a brilliant and daring second novel about young Byron Hemmings who is thrown into difficult realities of the adult world through two seconds that seemingly changed his life forever. {On sale now!}

Remember Me Like This by Bret Anthony Johnston- This book is not on sale until May, but definitely a title to keep on your to-read list for 2014! The novel explores the nature of love and forgiveness when a kidnapped son is returned home. {For fans of Alice Sebold, John Irving, Tom Perrotta, and Jill McCorkle.}

The Weight of Blood by Laura McHugh- I cannot say enough about this book. Add it. Add it. Add it. Debut novelist Laura McHugh delivers a bone chilling and page turning novel that will leave your heart beating. You won't regret picking this up. Seriously. {On sale March 11.}

The Boleyn King by Laura Andersen- If you are looking for a series AND you are a fan of historical fiction AND a sucker for Anne Boleyn and all Tudor-related drama then this is a great one to start in 2014. Andersen dares to explore what history would have been like if Anne Boleyn had a son with Henry VIII. {Start with The Boleyn King.}

Flavia de Luce Series by Alan Bradley- I can't get enough Flavia. This charming and best selling series, set in England in the 1950s, follows 13-year old Flavia, a budding chemist with a knack for solving crimes. Start with The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie and read on!

The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg- New York Times best selling author AND award winning business reporter Charles Duhigg studies the science of how habits work, why they exist, and how they can be changed.

Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand- From the author of Seabiscuit comes a rich narrative about Louis Zamperini and his amazing life. From a mischievous childhood to an almost four minute mile at the Berlin Olympics to his experience as a prisoner of war during WWII, this is an unforgettable true testament of one man's resilience of the human mind, body, and spirit.

With or Without You by Domenica Ruta- This is without a doubt one of the most moving and haunting memoirs I've read in the past year. Domenica tells the story of growing up outside Boston with her drug addict and drug dealing mother, Kathi. In addition to overcoming demons of her childhood, Domenica must fight off her own addictions in the process. {For fans of The Glass Castle.}

Wake by Anna Hope

buffalo cauliflower bites

Buffalo Cauliflower Bites || Sprinkles and Style

Over the long weekend, my mom and I decided to test out a new recipe that I had seen so many times on Pinterest. Since there were two big football games on Sunday, it seemed like the perfect time to whip this up.

Buffalo Cauliflower Bites
{recipe via The Curvy Carrot}

1 head of cauliflower, cleaned and cut into bite-size pieces
1 cup buttermilk {we used reduced fat buttermilk}
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tsp. garlic salt
1 cup buffalo sauce {We used Frank's because it's our favorite and the best in my opinion!}
1 tbsp. unsalted butter, melted

1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
2. Whisk together the buttermilk, flour, and garlic salt in a large bowl until smooth.
3. Gently toss the cauliflower with the buttermilk mixture. Make sure to coat each piece.
4. Place the cauliflower on an aluminum foil-covered baking sheet. Bake for 15-18 minutes.
5. Mix the buffalo sauce and melted butter together in a small bowl.
6. Remove the cauliflower from the oven. Pour the sauce over the cauliflower pieces and gently stir to make sure all pieces on the baking sheet are covered.
7. Return the cauliflower to the oven for another 5-8 minutes, depending on how toasty you would like it.
8. Serve with a side of bleu cheese dressing and some celery and enjoy!

This would make a great dish to serve up to friends and family on Super Bowl Sunday!

eat this, wear that: strawberry coffee cake

As someone who loves to bake and cook, I spend a lot of my time online looking at various food blogs and picking out recipes that I want to try. This one caught my eye because I had a craving for coffee cake and thought it would make a good addition to the Eat This, Wear That series.

Eat This, Wear That: Strawberry Coffee Cake || Sprinkles and Style
I think this coffee cake looks and sounds delicious and would be a great breakfast dish with a hot cup of coffee. And since today is the last day of this long weekend, I thought a more casual outfit that's great for a day of just running around would be a good way to go. I think the embellished collar on the blouse and the statement earrings add the right bit of fancy to dress up this look.

Happy Monday!
